Harrison College's Dean of School of IT passes HIT Pro Examination

Joseph Meadors Leads College's New Health Informatics Program

INDIANAPOLIS, June 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Harrison College
(www.harrison.edu) announced today that Joseph Meadors, National Dean of the college's School of Information Technology, has passed the Health Information Technology Professional (HIT Pro) Competency Examination. HIT Pro is a component of the Workforce Development program of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009. This legislation assists in the establishment or expansion of education programs in Health Informatics designed to train a highly skilled workforce to support and enable the use of secure, interoperable EHR systems.

Meadors' new credential comes on the heels of the launch of the Health Informatics program now offered by Harrison College, which focuses on the delivery of IT systems within the healthcare industry. The college offers a BS degree in Health Informatics and offers students the option of taking courses at its Indianapolis Northwest campus, Online, or a combination of the two.

Harrison College is offering its Health Informatics program online as a direct response to feedback the college received from its partners in the healthcare industry. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a shortage of approximately 50,000 qualified HIT workers to meet the needs of hospitals and other healthcare affiliates, including nursing homes, outpatient care centers, and physician offices.
