April 29 - Certification Commission Now Recruiting Work Group Volunteers for 2009 Certification

The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology recently announced a two-week recruiting period for work group volunteers to support its 2009 certification program. Those interested in helping guide the commission’s efforts are encouraged to apply at www.cchit.org/volunteer from now until May 4. More information about work group member qualifications and the required commitment is available with the application.

“Interest in certification as a driver of health IT adoption continues to grow, so the commission is responding by expanding its programs once more,” says Mark Leavitt, MD, PhD, commission chair. “This year, we’ll be developing certification for personal health records, as well as an add-on endorsement for EHRs [electronic health records] used in behavioral health.”

The commission also announced plans to expand into long-term care and other professional specialty areas but intends to perform market research before recruiting volunteers or starting criteria development.

The following work groups are now seeking volunteers:
Ambulatory EHR
Behavioral health (New)
Cardiovascular medicine
Child health
Emergency department EHR
Inpatient EHR
Interoperability
Personal health records (New)
Privacy & compliance
Security
