Nov. 27 - Online Seminars Will Guide Ambulatory and Inpatient EHR Certification Applicants Through Process The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology will offer online seminars beginning in December to help guide ambulatory and inpatient electronic health record (EHR) product certification applicants through the process. “The goal of the program is to help new applicants and those re-certifying to understand the 2007 certification program and be able to more efficiently and effectively navigate the process,” said Alisa Ray, executive director of the Certification Commission. “Following completion of this program, participants should be equipped to evaluate product readiness for testing, understand the application and inspection process, and be prepared to lead their team through certification. Many product companies have successfully completed this process independently but others have asked for more guidance.” Using already available ambulatory and inpatient EHR certification materials, the Certification Commission’s staff will walk applicants through each aspect of the testing process. The 2007 test scripts will be discussed, including new interoperability, functionality and security criteria for ambulatory certification. In addition, applicants for inpatient product certification will have an opportunity to examine criteria for clinician order entry (often called CPOE or “Computerized Physician Order Entry”) and medication administration capabilities (often called eMAR or “Electronic Medication Administration Record”). The program is designed for those individuals or teams charged with leading their organization’s product certification initiative. Participants may include project managers, product development managers, product marketing managers, clinical informaticists and health information managers. The first six-hour, three-part Web seminar will be held on December 17, 18, and 19. Applicants may register online here from November 27 through December 12. Further information about content, fees and schedule is available there.
