CCHIT Plans Work Group Recruiting for Updating, Expanding Certification Programs

The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) recently announced its plans to open a 30-day application window for work group volunteers to support its expanded 2009-2010 certification program development.

The commission’s chair, Mark Leavitt, MD, PhD, will host a CCHIT Town Call teleconference on March 17 to discuss the commission’s plans as well as set expectations for work group members and cochairs. Information about the town call and an accompanying presentation will be available at www.cchit.org/towncalls.

“Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, billions of dollars in public funds are being invested in health IT, with certification as a key mechanism to ensure that the electronic health records adopted will deliver the promised benefits in quality, safety, and efficiency,” says Leavitt. “The efforts of our volunteers over the past five years have had an enormous impact, but there’s no time to rest because our responsibilities have now been multiplied.”

Those interested in helping guide the CCHIT’s efforts are encouraged to apply at www.cchit.org/volunteer from March 23 through April 20. More information about work group member qualifications and the required commitment will be available with the application.
