CHAMPS Client Receives Outstanding Achievement Award

CHAMPS Oncology is pleased to announce the recognition of its client, The Fairview/Lakewood Hospital Integrated Network Cancer Program, as a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) by the Commission on Cancer, an award designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.
 
“As consultants during the survey process, CHAMPS Oncology is excited to share in this important achievement,” said Toni Hare, vice president of CHAMPS Oncology.
 
The Commission on Cancer granted its Outstanding Achievement Awards on March 16 to a select group of 106 cancer programs across the United States that were surveyed in 2011.The Fairview/Lakewood Hospital Integrated Network Cancer Program was one of only two cancer networks in the nation to receive the recognition. It was awarded following an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which the facility demonstrated a Commendation level of compliance with standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program.
“This accomplishment is a perfect score for them,” said Tracy Funk, one of three CHAMPS Cancer Registry Specialists who worked with The Fairview/Lakewood Hospital Integrated Network Cancer Program since 2009 on their Commission on Cancer survey.
 
"The entire team is focused on providing high level quality care to patients with cancer and their families. The Cancer Registrars are an important part of our team as they help us manage data and report outcomes," said Susan Dunson, MSN, RN, OCN, regional vice president for oncology services.
The standards that form the basis of the OAA criteria come from the following six areas of program activity:

• cancer committee leadership;
• cancer data management;
• clinical management;
• research;
• community outreach; and
• quality improvement.

In addition to demonstrating a commendation level of compliance in these six areas, The Fairview/Lakewood Hospital Integrated Network Cancer Program received a compliance rating for the remaining 29 standards in order to be eligible for the OAA.
