Salumatics Appoints Director of Clinical Documentation Improvement

Mississauga, ON (June 27, 2012) - Salumatics Inc today announces the appointment of Akeela Jamal as director of clinical documentation improvement. Akeela has over a decade of healthcare experience in both the public and private sectors, primarily in the areas of decision support, data quality, and HIM. Most recently with North York General Hospital, she is rejoining Salumatics, having formerly held the position of manager of client services until 2002.

President and CEO Allan Magnacca says, "Clinical documentation improvement is critical for hospitals, if they are to be successful at obtaining reimbursement that fairly reflects their activities and services provided. Both in Canada and the US, this is a priority area for CIOs and CFOs alike. To better serve our clients on both sides of the border in this critical area, we are pleased to have Akeela joining our team. I believe she will be a great asset as we expand our health information management services, and our clinical documentation improvement services in particular, across Canada and into the US marketplace."

Akeela has an MBA with a focus on Health Services Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Anatomy. She is certified as an HIM professional, and is a member of the Canadian College of Health Services Executives (CHE). She currently serves on the board of the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA). Among her other accomplishments, she established the provincial HIM advisory committee to improve the quality of clinical data and coding, established the provincial physician expert panel on clinical documentation, and is the author of "Guide to Better Physician Documentation".

This appointment is effective July 9, 2012.
