3M Names Vice President of Coding and Reimbursement

3M Health Information Systems has appointed Sandeep Wadhwa, MD, MBA, as vice president of coding and reimbursement systems.

Wadhwa joins 3M with more than 20 years experience in healthcare management and as a clinician. He most recently served as state Medicaid director of the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, where he led efforts to reform the state’s Medicaid program by championing accountable care organizations, performance based payment, advanced medical home, evidence-based benefit design, and care coordination initiatives.

At 3M, Wadhwa will be responsible for the company’s coding and reimbursement solutions, used in more than 5,000 healthcare settings worldwide to code and group patient data for decision support, quality measurement, and reimbursement. He will provide vision and direction for current and emerging health information technologies to help healthcare facilities and payers improve performance, reduce costs, and meet regulatory requirements.

Before joining the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, Wadhwa was vice president of McKesson Health Solutions for care management services including disease management, case management, and demand management.  During his nine-year tenure at McKesson, he also directed sales, account management, product management, and research for care management services.

Wadhwa is board certified in both internal medicine and geriatrics and is an associate clinical professor of medicine at the University of Colorado Denver.
