ACDIS Preview

Chart a Course for ACDIS

By Heather Hogstrom

Featuring the theme “Charting the Course,” the 12th Annual Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS) Conference will be held May 20–23 in Kissimmee, Florida, at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center. With Walt Disney World close by, ACDIS attendees may wish to take advantage of the convention discounts available for theme park tickets.

Natalie Stavas, MD, a physician at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, will deliver the keynote “Running Toward Chaos.” Stavas has first-hand experience with running toward chaos when, as a runner in the 2013 Boston marathon, she sprinted toward the finish line to act as a first responder helping those wounded by the bombings. The conference will also feature “OIG Work Plan and Current Initiatives” by Truman Mayfield, CPA, CPE, and Scott Perry, CPA, and “How to Be the Lion in Your Mirror” by Joe Tye.

The ACDIS conference features six concurrent educational tracks: Clinical & Coding, Management & Professional Development, Quality & Regulatory, Innovation & Expansion, Idea Laboratory, and Outpatient & Pediatric. For example, the popular Clinical & Coding track will offer sessions including “CDI-Pertinent Coding Clinic Updates,” “Untangling the Sepsis Web: Surviving Sepsis in 2019,” and “Metastatic Cancer: Progression, Complications, and CDI Opportunities.” The new Idea Laboratory track will cover topics such as “Research as the Future of CDI,” “I’m in Denial: CDI’s New Role in Denials Management,” and “Pearls of Wisdom: Advanced CDI/Coding Perspectives.” Attendees are not limited to only one track and may choose sessions based on individual interest.
